Currently running bespoke courses for households.

Rock hopping is maybe the most fun thing you can do in a kayak whatever your level.  Build your skill and confidence by experiencing more challenging conditions under the safety and guidance of our qualified instructors.

As a sea kayaker you can choose to paddle potentially miles out to sea or you can get much closer to the  land and cliffs.  This is what we at Paddle Cornwall enjoy, the variety of rock gullies to paddle through, gaps and caves to explore is what brought many of us to sea kayaking.

This is a potentially much more dynamic area to paddle, enabling you to practice your skills on the move and gain instant feedback.  Learning to read the water, developing an understanding of timing, and the constantly changing environment that you are paddling in, all go towards making you a more rounded kayaker while having fun.

The option to miss some gaps out and paddle past is also part of the learning.  On easier gaps we will paddle through together and as it gets tighter or more technical we go through one at a time.  So if we do have a capsize it is only one person in the water at a time.  The rescue will happen and then we can all move on to the next bit of fun.  This is all incorporated into two days of paddling the Cornish coastline.  We will meet at the start point on day one and then choose day two's start location based on the weather conditions.

Helmets are worn for this activity, we will also cover safe swimming and rescue techniques, and there is often the possibility of a bit of surfing.

What's included:

Kayak, paddle, helmet, buoyancy aid, jacket and long-john wetsuit.

You are welcome to use your own kit if you would like to.

SURFING

Paddling off a beach, punching through the white water waves and getting out back is a great sense of achievement, not to mention exciting!  But then once out there it can often feel a lot bigger and the reality hits that you have to then catch one back in.  The chances are that you will paddle and catch one, its the best feeling when your boat takes off down a glassy wave.  What happens next is quite a lottery and many people's first experience is to end up swimming upside down and out of their boat.  There is another way.

Learning good core skills and building up your knowledge in the small stuff before venturing outback will give you the confidence and ability to catch wave after wave.  Plus make the most of ocean swells on kayaking journeys.

With the  long Cornish beaches we are often able to find quiet sections to ourselves away from the crowds in front of the car park.  We don't need to go deep to learn the fundamentals that we can then use to progress further.  You will learn how to stay upright in the shallows before heading out further to catch the green waves.

Helmets will be worn, safe swimming and rescue techniques will also be covered, along with good surf etiquette and surf safety.
